I’m finally to the point where I’m in decorating/hanging things on the wall of the apartment mode. Here’s the work in progress above my desk and crafting area — both of which I’ve been without since moving to New York. Although I love my newfound techiness, I really love making things with my hands. With the lack of space that is living in a New York City apartment, my crafting supplies have been hidden away in a box. However, since moving a month ago (with more space), my hands have been busy, inspired bees and it’s fun to see projects come together and combined with other fun pieces picked up through the years.
From top to bottom:
Iron Owl picked up at an antique store in Blue Ridge, GA while down for the July 4th holiday.
Carved William Shakespeare bust that I bought several years ago at a flea market. For some reason I’m leaning towards the Nashville one, but I recall my mom being with me so maybe it was in GA.
Framed ‘Puffer Tail’ print by Jen Skelley from her Exotic Birds Series. Picked up at the Renegade Craft Fair in Brooklyn a month or so ago. In a red IKEA frame.
Handmade Button Flowers in a teardrop hanging vase from CB2. These were very fun to make… mixing and matching button sizes, colors… I  originally bought 3 of the vases a while ago and am just now putting one to use. The kitties broke one of them by knocking over the bag when they were first purchased and the second broke during the move. #3, you are lucky. Various buttons in the bottom of the vase.
Three handstitched bird pieces. I basically took various swatches of fabric that I already had (Mom probably had clothes made out of some of them, etc.) cut out different shapes of birds, stitched them together and hung them up in wood embroidery hoops. I was inspired to make these after visiting the aforementioned Renegade fair. I had most definitely fallen out of crafting and after seeing so many talented artists and pieces, I left McCarren with a desire to create!
I love having things hanging on the wall that have stories and memories attached.
