Whiskeytown - “16 Days”
We’ve all had them: those moments when we realize that there’s something on YouTube we’ve always wanted to see that we’ve never been able to, until now. This is a terrible admission and one I’m not proud to make, if only because the typical level of discourse on YouTube is one which resembles a sandbox full of inbred adolecents, mouths full of sand, hands caked with dirt.
Anyway: today, that thing I wanted to see was Whiskeytown, the former band of Ryan Adams, live and in concert. There weren’t that many videos, but there were three or four pretty great ones from a show in St. Louis. Not only is this the best out of the ones I saw in terms of sound quality and camerawork, but also because there’s this moppy-haired fucker named Beatle Bob dancing behind Ryan Adams for most of the show. Apparently, he’s some sort of fixture on the St. Louis music scene. I’m surprised he’s not dead yet.
So. Watch closely, kids: this is when the world of rock critics thought alt-country was going to burn your face off. And at the time, it could. Caitlin Cary is good. Whiskeytown is great. Also, check out the chops on Adams. That shit is rock.
Omg. Thank you fek for bringing this to light.
