On Saturday night, Rachel made an awesome pun on the title of “I Dreamed A Dream”: “I Memed A Meme”. I found this to be both hilarious (PUNS!) and full of layered awesomeness (you know, because I Dreamed A Dream is a meme… right, okay).

After I got home, I went home and drunk-purchased the entire Original Broadway Cast Recording of Les Miserables (thank you, stored passwords) and then proceeded to compose a parodic tribute to internet culture.

I should really step away from the computer more often.

I Memed A Meme
(Sung to the tune of “I Dreamed A Dream” from Les Miserables)

I memed a meme in days gone by
When posting “FIRST!!1” made life worth living
I memed leet speak would never die
I memed 4chan would keep on giving

Then I was young, on AOL
We used “unsend” when we were wasted
Emoticons would wink farewell
Kbps the speed we tasted

Then the kittens came at night
With their nom noms soft as thunder
They Rickrolled our hope apart
And memes will never be the same

With Gchat windows side by side
Our Moms Facebooked, and wrote on Tumblr
They bridged the cultural divide
And got reblogged towards microfame

(Key change!)

And still I meme of LOLZ to be
Where we’ll ban Comic Sans together
Yet there are memes that cannot be
This Chocolate Rain we cannot weather

I had a meme the web could be
A place where Oprah was not tweeting
Where all your base belong to me
Now Susan Boyle has killed the meme… I… memed

(Many thanks to Rachel Sklar for editing and general encouragement)

Kate Miltner continues to be my hero. (See above)
